Position Summary:  The Financial Cost Accountant should have excellent organizational and analytical skills, be detailed oriented, have strong problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines. The candidate should be self-starting and must also be able to work as a Team. This team member will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing cost accounting functions. This candidate will also be assisting the Site Controller with monthly close and financial reporting for multiple companies, assisting with quarterly compliance reporting, researching technical guidance on accounting issues, assisting with external audits, and tax preparation as well as developing and implementing process activities.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in month-end closing for several businesses including journal entry preparation for fixed assets, month-end accruals, amortization of prepayments, loan interest calculations and intercompany reconciliations
  • Support Site Controller with reviewing and reconciling all balance sheet accounts for month-end close
  • Download and review general ledger details for proper account coding
  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley implementation
  • Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls
  • Analyze inventory valuation, including preparation of cost of goods sold and production reports
  • Reconcile raw materials, work in progress, finished-goods, sales and inventory roll forward
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories
  • Maintain cost accounting system and cost ledger
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies in regard to cost analyses and profitability
  • Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management
  • Assist Corporate Controller with technical accounting research and other special projects as necessary
  • Serve as backup for accounts payable
  • Prepare schedules and assist Site Controller with year-end audit requests from outside audit firm
  • Create annual 1099-MISC reports
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and report preparation as assigned
  • Ensure adherence to and effectiveness of internal controls within the organization

 Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant, progressive Cost Accounting experience required with a combination of public accounting and Manufacturing industry experience is required.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word required.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel required, including complex/compound spreadsheets.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, solve problems, and take initiative to recommend process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine priorities and work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of moderately complex procedures and practices of accounting.
  • Ability to work well independently and deal effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English, both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and concerns with discretion.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Push, pull and lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
  • Stand, sit, walk, reach and bend as required.
  • Sit at a desk and operate a computer for an entire shift.
  • Wear safety gear and required PPE as needed.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test.
